Lightning EV Racing Series The Formula
Lightning racing class, the first open wheel competition vehicle designed
and built especially to be electric-powered, has been established to test and
improve electric vehicle technologies. Teams
of students and faculty at leading universities have designed the
motor/controller/battery systems to propel these cars at speeds in excess of 120
mph. Formula Lightnings are driven
by professional race car drivers. Races
include pit stops with student pit crews changing 1,200 pounds of batteries in
